How To Submit A Sitemap file to Yahoo
Yahoo appears to want to make it extremely difficult to figure out how to submit a sitemap.xml file to Yahoo Site Explorer. You would think it would work similarly to Google where there is a page that allows you to upload a sitemap.xml file either directly or providing the URL. Indeed Yahoo supports the sitemap format as declared by this article on the Yahoo Search Blog but nowhere on Site Explorer can you find any mention of the sitemap format. There is the Feeds page that allows you to upload “feeds” of the following various formats:
- Website Feed
- Mobile Feed - xHTML
- Mobile Feed - WML
- Structured data feed
Where the hell is the sitemap format?!? Well, XML is structured so maybe its considered “Structured data feed” format? The question is why don’t they be more explicit?
I never did figure out what format it is because I ran across the Submit a Site Feed page, which incidentally doesn’t appear to have any direct link to it from within Site Explorer, where I submitted my sitemap.xml file. Sure enough the file will appear on the “Feeds” page of Site Explorer but it still doesn’t say what format the file is in according to Yahoo.
Thanks, Yahoo, for making life more difficult than it needs to be.
Hi Kevin
I’ve tried submitting sitemaps as website feed and structured data feeds but I had become so frustrated with the non-usability of the yahoo site explorer interface that I forgot scientific method and didn’t record the results.
On my return a couple of days later, it turns out that (at least) one of the options must have worked as the sitemaps were accepted.
But, big thanks for the direct link to the hidden Submit a Site Feed page - I’ve bookmarked this to avoid the pain in future and used it earlier today to add a new xml sitemap for a recent development.
Thanks again

Hi Stephen,
Thanks for providing the information, I want to submit my site to yahoo and and it would be really helpful if you can send me the link of “submit site” you’ve been using for yahoo.
and thanks to Kevin for starting this post.
Under Rule Type, select Custom, and then click Next. ,
Personnaly, i’m using this page to submit sitemap
https://siteexplorer.search.yahoo.com/submit
I was looking for an answer to the same question and decided just to perform the test: I kept “Website Feed” selected (default option) and entered an address of my .xml sitemap.
It seems that everything worked OK, but after the submission feed type field changed to “Site Explorer feed”.
All the best,
Evgeni
